Alaska’s Wild Winter Weather & Pivoting Adventures
January has been all over the place weather-wise in Anchorage! We’ve had:
❄️ Warm wind storms (which in Alaska means 45°F in January!)
❄️ Ice (I can work with that on skates at least)
❄️ Not much snow (not ideal)
❄️ Trees down from storms (definitely not ideal)
With conditions changing daily, we’ve been making the most of it—skiing, skating, fat biking, hiking, and just getting outside however we can!
Swimming with Sharks in Belize!
As I usually do after the holiday shopping season, I took a post-busy-season escape with my family—this year, we swapped northern winter storms for some sun + tropical storms in Belize!
Our main activity? Exploring the water! We went snorkeling and saw:
🐠 Hundreds of colorful fish
🌊 Vibrant coral reefs
🦞 Lobsters and spotted eagle rays
🦈 Sharks—yup!
They were nurse sharks (the friendliest kind of shark?), but still, swimming with sharks is swimming with sharks! It was surreal to be in such a completely different climate and doing completely different adventures. Plus, the warm, humid air? A much-needed reprieve!
Back to Alaska & Back to My Winter Uniform
Now it’s back to full-on winter mode! My go-to outfit these days?
